This policy explains what personal information Kultips collects when you tip, buy a ticket, perform or organise an event, how we use it, and the rights you have under South African law.
01Who we are
Kultips is a product of THE GRID WORLD (PTY) LTD (registration number 2026/761164/07), a South African company. We’re the responsible party for the personal information described here, under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).
For anything about your personal information, including requests to our Information Officer, email hello@kultips.com.
02What we collect
When you tip: the amount, the creatives you chose, the name and note you add (both optional), any rating and tags you leave, whether you covered the fee, and payment details from Yoco (payment status, reference numbers and the type of card or wallet). We never receive your card number.
When you register or buy a ticket: your name, email address and, if you give it, your phone number, plus your ticket code, the amount paid and payment details from Yoco.
If you’re a creative: your name, role, bio, photo and Instagram handle (shown on event pages), your email address and phone number, the bank details we use to pay you, and a record of your tips and payouts.
If you’re an organiser: your name, email address and password (stored as a secure hash, never in plain text), and the events, lineups and guest lists you manage. When you sign in we record your IP address and browser type with your session.
Technical information: our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses and the pages requested, to keep Kultips running and secure.
03How we use it
- to process tips, tickets and registrations, and confirm payments with Yoco;
- to show each creative the tips they receive, and pay them what they’re owed;
- to email guests their tickets, and creatives a notice of each tip;
- to let organisers run their events, for example approving guests and checking tickets;
- to answer questions, handle refunds and prevent fraud and misuse; and
- to keep the records the law requires, such as financial and tax records.
We do this to carry out the transaction you asked for, because we have a legitimate interest in running a safe platform, or because the law requires it. We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t send marketing emails.
04Who can see it
- Creatives see the amount, name, note and rating on tips you send them.
- Organisers see the tips at their events and the guest list (names, email addresses and phone numbers) for registrations.
- Event pages are public. Creatives’ names, roles, photos and bios on a lineup can be seen by anyone with the event link.
We also use these service providers, who process information for us under contract:
- Yoco – card, Apple Pay and Google Pay payments (South Africa);
- Vercel – website hosting and image storage;
- Neon – our database, hosted in Frankfurt, Germany;
- Resend – sending emails such as tickets and tip notices;
- Google Maps and OpenStreetMap – venue maps on event pages, and place search for organisers. When a map loads, the map provider receives your IP address.
We’ll share information with authorities only when the law requires it.
05Information stored outside South Africa
Some of our providers store information outside South Africa, including in the European Union and the United States. We only use providers that protect personal information to a standard similar to POPIA, as section 72 of POPIA requires.
06How long we keep it
We keep payment, tip and payout records for at least five years, because financial and tax laws require it. Guest list details are kept with the event’s records for the same reason. Organiser sign-in sessions expire after 12 hours.
When we no longer need information, we delete it or remove anything that identifies you.
07How we protect it
Kultips is served over HTTPS, passwords are stored as secure hashes, admin access needs a sign-in, and card details are handled only by Yoco. Payment confirmations from Yoco are checked with a signed webhook. If a breach ever affects your information, we’ll tell you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.
09Your rights
Under POPIA you can ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you and give you a copy;
- correct information that’s wrong or out of date;
- delete information we no longer have a reason or legal duty to keep; or
- stop using your information in a particular way.
Email hello@kultips.com and we’ll reply within 30 days. We may need to confirm your identity first. If you’re not happy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Information Regulator.
10Children
Kultips isn’t meant for children. If you’re under 18, please ask a parent or guardian before paying or sharing your details.
11Changes
We may update this policy as Kultips changes. We’ll update the date at the top of this page, and tell organisers and creatives by email about significant changes.
