These terms explain how Kultips works and what guests, creatives and organisers can expect from us, and from each other. We’ve kept them in plain language.
01Who we are
Kultips is a product of THE GRID WORLD (PTY) LTD, a private company registered in South Africa with registration number 2026/761164/07 (“The Grid World”, “Kultips”, “we”, “us”).
You can reach us at hello@kultips.com.
02These terms
These terms apply when you use any part of Kultips: this website (kultips.com), the guest app (app.kultips.com) where you tip creatives and register for events, and the organiser admin (admin.kultips.com). By using Kultips you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Kultips.
We use “guest” for anyone who tips or registers for an event, “creative” for the DJs, singers, dancers and other performers in an event’s lineup, and “organiser” for the people who set up events on Kultips.
Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 or other South African law that can’t be excluded.
03How Kultips works
Organisers create an event and its lineup on Kultips. Guests scan the event’s QR code or open its link, choose one or more creatives, pick an amount and pay. Some events also sell tickets or take registrations through Kultips.
Payments are processed by Yoco on Yoco’s secure checkout. The Grid World receives the payment and pays each creative what they’re owed, as described below.
04Tips
- A tip is a voluntary gift to a creative. It doesn’t buy any goods or services.
- Tips are in South African rand. Each creative’s share must be at least R5, and a single tip can’t be more than R10 000. You can split one tip equally between up to five creatives.
- A tip only counts once Yoco confirms the payment. A checkout you started but didn’t finish isn’t a tip, and you won’t be charged for it.
- Kultips charges a platform fee on each tip. The fee is shown before you pay. By default it’s taken from the tip before it reaches the creative. You can choose to cover the fee instead, in which case it’s added to the amount you pay and the creative receives your full tip.
- Your name, note and any rating you leave are shared with the creative you tipped and with the organiser. Keep them respectful: we may remove notes that are abusive, hateful or unlawful.
05Payments
Card, Apple Pay and Google Pay payments are processed by Yoco. Your card details go straight to Yoco; Kultips never sees or stores them. Yoco’s own terms also apply to your payment.
The amount you’re charged is the total shown on Kultips before you pay. Your bank may show the payment under Yoco or The Grid World.
06Refunds
Tips are final once Yoco confirms the payment, because they go to the creative you chose. We will refund a tip if:
- you were charged more than once for the same tip;
- you were charged because of a technical error on Kultips; or
- the payment was made without your permission (for example, with a lost or stolen card).
Email hello@kultips.com within 14 days of the payment with the date, amount and event. We may ask for details to check the payment. Refunds go back to the card or wallet you paid with.
Tickets. If you paid for a registration that the organiser then declines, or the organiser cancels your ticket, your payment is refunded to the card you paid with. If an event is cancelled or changed, contact us and we’ll work with the organiser on a refund.
07Tickets and registration
- Some events need the organiser’s approval. Your spot is only confirmed once you receive your ticket.
- Your ticket code and QR code are valid for one entry. Keep them private: anyone with your code can use it.
- The organiser runs the event and sets the entry rules, such as age limits. The organiser can refuse entry or cancel a ticket, for example if the code was copied or the event is full.
- The Grid World provides the ticketing and payments; we don’t run the events listed on Kultips and aren’t responsible for how they’re organised.
08For creatives
- You see every tip you receive. When Yoco confirms a tip, we email you the amount, the guest’s name and their note, as long as your email address is on your Kultips profile.
- The Grid World pays out what you’re owed (your tips minus the platform fee, unless the guest covered it) to the bank account on your profile, and records each payout with a reference.
- Keep your contact and bank details up to date. We’re not responsible for payments made to details you gave us that turn out to be wrong.
- We may hold back a payout while we look into a tip that appears fraudulent or is disputed with the guest’s bank, and we may reverse a tip that was refunded under these terms.
- You’re responsible for any tax on the tips you receive.
09For organisers
- Keep your event details, prices and lineup accurate and up to date.
- Only add creatives, names and photos you have permission to use, and only upload content you have the right to share.
- You’re responsible for running your event safely and lawfully, including the venue, entry rules and any permits it needs.
- Use guest details only to run your event, and handle them in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).
- Keep your admin sign-in details safe, and tell us straight away if you think someone else has them.
10Acceptable use
Don’t use Kultips to:
- commit fraud, test or use stolen cards, or launder money;
- harass, threaten or abuse anyone, including in notes;
- impersonate someone else or misrepresent an event;
- break the law or infringe anyone’s rights; or
- interfere with Kultips, try to get around its security, or access accounts that aren’t yours.
We may suspend access, cancel transactions or remove content if you break these rules.
11Content and our brand
You keep ownership of the photos, event details and other content you add to Kultips. You let us store and show it so Kultips can work, for example on an event page or a ticket.
The Kultips name, logo and platform belong to The Grid World. Please don’t copy them or use them in a way that suggests we endorse you without our written permission.
12Availability and changes
We work hard to keep Kultips running, but we can’t promise it will always be available or error-free, for example during maintenance or if Yoco or another provider has an outage. We may improve, change or stop features over time.
13Our responsibility to you
To the extent the law allows, The Grid World isn’t liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss caused by events, organisers, payment providers or other things outside our reasonable control.
To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim about a transaction is limited to the amount of that transaction. This doesn’t limit liability that can’t be limited by law, such as for our gross negligence or fraud.
14Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and the choices you have.
15Changes and governing law
We may update these terms from time to time. We’ll change the date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we’ll let organisers and creatives know by email. Using Kultips after an update means you accept the new terms.
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. If something goes wrong, please email us first so we can try to sort it out.
